Holistic therapy in Baldwin Hills for women ready to exhale and begin again

If you're in Baldwin Hills and constantly holding it all together—always strong, always dependable—but feeling emotionally depleted underneath, you're not alone. I’m Chelsey Reese, a holistic therapist for women of color. My practice combines somatic therapy, nervous system regulation, and trauma-informed care to help you stop surviving and start softening. This is a space where you can release what you’ve been carrying and reconnect with your body, your emotions, and your truth—without judgment.

How it works

01

Start where you are—not where you think you “should” be

When we first connect, we’ll gently sift through the emotions and tension you’ve been holding—whether in your heart, body, or relationships. Holistic therapy might be the steady support your nervous system has been silently reaching for. There’s no script to follow—just a space to exhale and feel safe. I’ll meet you right where you are.

02

No scripts. Just what your body needs

Your session meets you exactly where you are—whether you’re navigating burnout, past trauma, or feeling frozen in place. We won’t rush the process. Your body sets the pace. We’ll move slowly, tune in deeply, and hold space for whatever’s rising.

Chelsey has been a mentor to me in many ways. She has a warm, patient, thoughtful presence that is consistent and unmoving, and the ability to closely contact whatever arises in a calm and non judgemental way that allows for connection. Highly recommend!

Chelsey and I recently led a group and I was in awe of her ability to hold space, give others feedback, and stay regulated throughout the course. Chelsey was a supportive, caring, and wonderful co-facilitator. I learned so much from her!

Julia Willinger

She's phenomenal. I've had a few different therapists during my mental health journey, but Chelsea is the first one to actually make me feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable. She reminds me that it's okay to acknowledge my feelings, instead of bottling them up in order to process the situation that brought that particular feeling up. I spent a long time feeling invisible; my sessions with Chelsea remind me that I'm here, and I matter. It feels good to feel seen and understood.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is somatic therapy?

Somatic therapy is an integrated  and body-centered approach that focuses on the connection between your mind and body.

Somatic therapy helps you become more aware of physical sensations, emotions, and patterns in the body that are linked to stress, trauma, and emotional experiences.

  • How does virtual therapy work?

Virtual therapy sessions are held over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. All you need is a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone.

  • Can I use my insurance for virtual therapy?

I currently do not accept insurance. I can provide a superbill for reimbursement and I do accept Loveland Vouchers.

  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

I ask for at least 24 hours notice to reschedule or cancel your session. Cancellations made less than 24 hours notice may incur a fee.

  • Somatic therapy vs talk therapy what’s the difference?

Talk therapy focuses on verbal processing, helping you understand emotions, thought patterns, and behaviors. It’s great for gaining insight and developing coping strategies.

Somatic therapy goes deeper by addressing how stress and trauma live in the body. Through breathwork, movement, and body awareness, it helps regulate the nervous system and release stored tension.

  • What does a somatic release feel like?

A somatic release is when the body lets go of stored stress or trauma. It can feel different for everyone, but common experiences include:

    • Physical sensations – Deep sighs, yawning, warmth, tingling, or muscles softening.
    • Emotional release – A sudden wave of sadness, relief, or even unexpected laughter.
    • Energy shifts – A sense of lightness, subtle shaking, or a deep exhale as tension dissolves.
    • Deep relaxation – Feeling more grounded, present, and at ease in your body.

Your body remembers what your mind tries to forget. Somatic therapy helps you gently integrate and release what has been stored.

  • How do I know if I need somatic therapy?

You might benefit from somatic therapy if you:

    • Feel stuck in talk therapy, gaining insight but still experiencing the same emotional patterns.
    • Carry chronic tension in your shoulders, chest, or jaw, even when you're not actively stressed.
    • Struggle with anxiety, burnout, or overwhelm that feels more physical than mental.
    • Find it hard to slow down and rest, feeling guilty or restless when you try.
    • Have experienced trauma or emotional suppression and notice that certain triggers bring up body sensations rather than just thoughts.

If you’ve been pushing through stress, ignoring your body’s signals, or feeling disconnected from yourself, somatic therapy can help you regulate, release, and reconnect.
